Why did I decide to start selling prints?

Prior to building my business, I had always taken photos out and about, ranging from my hometown of Nottingham to my own travels around the world, which have been for my own personal enjoyment. For instance, photos of a beautiful landscape, a sunrise/sunset and even family photos, some of which I have ordered as my own personal prints. The passion I have for photography is what drives me.

As a result of this passion and determination I then decided to build my business, this involves portrait shoots, pawtography shoots, weddings and family photos. I always provide my clients with digital images of the photo shoot and upon request a printed image/s. The more work I have done with clients and the more times I have handed over the digital images has certainly confirmed the enjoyment I also have for this aspect of my work. I am able to portray happy memories for others; capture special moments and highlight an incredible bond that we humans have with our beloved pets. In addition to the enjoyment in which I already have, I have previously received comments and questions like  ‘That would look great as a print’ and ‘why don’t you sell your prints?’ As a result of this I did start to question why don’t I sell my prints!

So why did I change my mind and decide to start selling my prints? Well, during this lockdown period, I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to browse some of my older work and take my camera out with me as part of my daily exercise. I was able to appreciate further the story behind each image and how the images make me feel. I then realised this is something that we all already do on social medial, we hit that little heart symbol when another persons memory speaks to you! Maybe this brings up a happy memory of your own or maybe it gives you an inner sense of calm; it really is true that a picture can speak a thousand words. In addition to the inner feelings you may have you are also appreciating art, not only is art a painting, it is also the way someone else portrays an image. Similarly, looking at another person’s representation of a scene or vista and taking your own meaning from this, it wont always be the same as the photographer, after all we are different and see things in a different light.

Therefore, after much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that I am going to start selling some of my prints. I am a Photographer from Nottingham, England but by offering my prints for sale there is no reason why my work can’t travel and help someone ten thousand miles away feel the enjoyment out of an image that I do.
